Did you know THIS about the trans-Atlantic slave trade and West Africa?
- In the late 18th century, more than three-quarters of the people on earth were in slavery or servitude of one kind or another.
- The North Atlantic slave trade was the largest forced migration in human history – draining away some 12 million people in 400 years. The myth that enslaved Africans were primitive hunter-gatherers was just that: a myth invented to somehow justify slavery.
- Futa Jallon and the rest of West Africa had large cities; many people were educated; agriculture and industry were sufficient for the population; armies fought their wars, not with spears, but with guns and horses.
- It could be argued that if King Sori’s (Abdul-Rahman’s father) had met George Washington’s, it would have been the Africans who emerged victorious.
