The mission of Unity Productions Foundation (UPF) is to create peace through the media. Since 1999, UPF produces documentary films for television broadcast, online viewing, and theatrical release. UPF also creates long-term educational campaigns to start dialogues among people of different faiths and cultures, especially among Muslims and other faiths. We are convinced of the power of media to empower citizens with greater understanding and to nourish pluralism in America and around the world.
Since its inception in 1999, UPF's executive producers and founders, Michael Wolfe and Alex Kronemer, have realized our mission by producing 9 nationally broadcast films for the U.S.Public Broadcasting System and one full-length film for theatrical release. Most of these films have gone on to wide international distribution.
UPF films have been viewed by an estimated 150 million people worldwide and have won dozens of national awards.
UPF uses these films to discuss important and timely topics. Since 2008, over 20,000 group discussions have been launched through UPF's program 20,000 Dialogues, based in Washington, DC.
We partner with Jewish, Muslim, Christian and interfaith groups to host dialogues nationwide, engaging more than 80,000 participants in classrooms, community centers, living rooms, government offices and religious congregations. Evaluations of 20,000 Dialogues demonstrate the power of film-based dialogues to break down stereotypes and enhance understanding.
Through our UPF-supported MOSTResource, based in Hollywood, UPF works with the larger entertainment industry, providing expert advice and storylines to mainstream producers, writers, directors, studios, and video-game producers when they want to develop Muslim characters and themes.
